GOLF PROGRAM STRUCTURE
Beginning with coaches who complete the most rigorous of instructional certification programs and have years of experience coaching golfers of all skill levels and continuing through every area of the golf school, from instruction to technology, our academy produces and trains the best in the game. Combine customized technical instruction with our course management and competition methodology, as well as our Performance programs to increase core power, flexibility and focus/confidence, and the golf academy develops golfers who can compete anywhere. Through personalized training and recruitment plans implemented from the day you enter the campus gates, the Virginia Beach Sports Academy's golf academy enriches the preparatory process from the foundational level and beyond.
From the first day on the green through the final days before graduation, Virginia Beach Sports Academy junior golfers recognize the personalized training experience that’s available to them through on-hand staff members ready to lend their experience to every student-athlete. Available to those already versed in the sport to those just peaking interest, Virginia Beach Sports Academy sets the foundation for growth, obtainable knowledge and progress beyond the gates of our Virginia Beach campus.
From a preliminary evaluation to determine skill levels to annual tournament scheduling to the college recruitment process, Virginia Beach Sports Academy's golf program provides a route through high school that’s detailed in every essential area. Our distinctive approach that focuses on individualized instruction in small groups and the development of a long-term athletic and personal development plan, ensures each student-athlete reaches their potential both on and off the golf course. The golf academy focuses on creating a structured learning and training pathway which enables each student-athlete to develop their golf and athletic skills, golf IQ and their overall proficiency at the game. GOLF TEAM COACHES
Head Coach: Krissy Unger-Weinhardt
Krissy began playing golf at five years old. She grew up playing in Long Island New York, where she went on to be Suffolk County Champion her junior and senior years of high school, placing third in the New York State High School Championships her senior year. Throughout her summers she played numerous Metropolitan PGA events earning Player of the Year during the 2011 and 2012 summer seasons, as well as many IJGT and AJGA events.
Began her college career at Quinnipiac University in Connecticut. She competed in 12 tournaments during which she completed 23 rounds and boasted a scoring average of 82.04 ... carded a season-low 73 during the first round of the NEC Women's Championship, an event in which she finished 18th out of 55 and won the Quinnipiac Classic, besting 36 golfers with a 156 two-day total.
Krissy then went on to finish her next three years of her college career at Towson University in Maryland. She helped Towson claim victory at various events including the Tiganelli Towson Invitational and the Navy Invitational. Unger entered the 2014-2015 season in record-breaking fashion recording the team-best averages of 80.2 and 77.5 respectively. She was ECAC Co-Golfer of the month in April 2015 and CAA Conference Golfer of the week multiple times while at Towson. She held the school record for the lowest single round in a tournament at the Kiawah Island Classic during the 2015-2016 season. She also finished her career as a WGCA All-American Scholar where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science as a dual major in both political science and mass communications. Shortly after graduation she went on to receive her Masters of Professional Studies in Political Management from The George Washington University in Washington D.C.
